Alaska continued

So now I am finally retired and have some time catch up on my blog.  First of all, I need to finish our trip to Alaska, from July 12016.

After Seward, we drove back to Anchorage and took a seaplane tour to some remote areas to the east.
We flew with Rust’s Flying Service from the Anchorage airport.

Views from the air were spectacular.

We landed in several places to shoot pictures and have lunch at the foot of a glacier.

The last leg of our Alaska adventure was to take the train to Denali. That’s me going around the bend.

We got off the train at the entrance to the park and then took a six hour bus ride to get to the North Face Lodge, where we stayed for four days.

 A moose,

And a bunch of other stuff.
The North Face Lodge was rustic but nice.

While there, we hiked in the mountains,

rode bikes to the end of the road,

and canoed on Wonder Lake.

During a bike ride on the only road, we had a close encounter with a caribou.  He was just walking up the middle of the road like he owned the place.  He came within about three feet of us – cowering behind our bicycles for protection.  Those things are really big!

We took lots of pictures while there…

Of course the highlight was Denali itself – the highest peak in North America at 20,000+ feet. We were lucky that we had several days with clear views of the whole mountain.
