Austria / Switzerland

Our annual ski trip in 2017 was special since we went to Austria and Switzerland.  We flew into Zurich and took the train to Saint Anton, Austria.

Saint Anton is a small town nestled in the mountains but is the gateway to the largest connected ski area in the world.

The first day, Karol and Peter skied for about eight hours.

The terrain was quite rugged and the skiing was great.  Here’s a ski lodge near the top.

Here’s Karol coming in for lunch.

Here we are enjoying an après ski beer.

The food was also a treat – plenty of schnitzel and strudel.  We ate at one interesting place that was built as a hunting lodge in the 1890s and was recently converted to a ski museum and restaurant.

Here’s the view of the town from the lodge.

We took a side trip to Innsbruck one day that it rained.  We walked around the old part of town and visited all the tourist sites.

t seems the Austrians have my kind of humor.

From Austria, we took the train to Zermatt Switzerland –a nice little town in the mountains where you can see the Matterhorn from almost anywhere.

The town has no gas powered vehicles and uses a fleet of electric cabs/truck/busses.  Of course, you can also travel the old fashioned way.

The hotel we stayed in was a grand old place that was very expensive but was in the middle of everything and had great views.  Here is the hotel.

We had a corner suite with three balconies.

This is the view from the balcony.

Of course, we took lots of pictures around town.

The skiing was great – in fact, Karol said it was her best day skiing ever.  If you know where to go, you can ski in three countries from Zermatt - Switzerland, Italy and France,  Here's Karol with her guide for the day.
